ICYMI: U.S. House Ways And Means Committee Advances Protecting America’s Seniors’ Access To Care Act
A message from Cliff Porter, AHCA/NCAL SVP of Government Relations
As you are likely aware, the Protecting America’s Seniors’ Access to Care Act (H.R. 7513) passed out of the U.S. Ways and Means Committee yesterday morning. The most important development was that it passed out of committee on a bipartisan vote with the support of Vice Chairwoman Rep. Terri Sewell (D-AL).
While this is just the beginning of a very long process to ultimately becoming law, it is a very important first step. The next step will be a floor vote in the House of Representatives. We have been assured that this is a top priority for House Leadership, but estimated timing remains unclear.
One thing is clear: member engagement matters! This vote was destined to be a partisan exercise. There are currently no Democrats on the bill, and these votes traditionally fall on party lines. I want to thank our Alabama members for explicitly sharing their concerns directly with Congresswoman Sewell, as well as our Alabama State Executive Brandon Farmer for providing meaningful data to inform her decision.
While we have a long way to go, I remain inspired by your engagement. Tours, meetings, comments, coalitions, and political activity make a huge difference. This is one small example of what working together can do!
We will continue to provide important updates as they happen. In the meantime, thanks for all you do, and let’s keep up the fight!
