The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) will begin referring delinquent accounts for monthly licensed bed assessment payments to the Wisconsin Department of Revenue (DOR) for collections. This new policy will take effect July 1, 2025.

A six month grace period will begin January 1, 2025. DHS will waive outstanding interest, penalties, and fees for facilities that make their accounts current by July 1, 2025. DHS will refer remaining delinquent accounts to DOR.

Facilities can set up a payment plan no later than April 1, 2025. Payment plans will not be available after July 1, 2025.

Rate reductions for unpaid licensed bed assessments

As a reminder, section 1.30 of the Methods of Implementation says DHS will temporarily reduce Medicaid reimbursement rates to providers with delinquent licensed bed assessment payments. DHS will enforce these reductions starting March 1, 2025.
