Free webinar on obtaining Joint Commission Nursing Home Accreditation
The Joint Commission is the nation’s oldest and largest independent, nonprofit healthcare accrediting body. Founded in 1951, it evaluates and accredits more than 23,000 U.S. healthcare organizations and programs, helping facilities maintain rigorous patient safety, quality of care, and treatment standards.
Until recently, The Joint Commission focused its accreditation services on the hospital sector. The organization is now expanding its accreditation offerings to other health care settings including nursing homes.
We encourage you and/or appropriate staff to attend The Joint Commission’s free September 15th webinar on Nursing Care Center accreditation. We further believe that knowing more about The Joint Commission’s accreditation process may be helpful for at least these two reasons:
- Current and future hospital partners may see Joint Commission accreditation as an important reason for partnering with your facility versus a competitor;
- Led by our national affiliate, AHCA/NCAL, we continue to present to the current Administration, CMS and the Congress ideas designed to rationalize the current nursing home survey process to make it less punitive, less onerous and more outcome focused. One idea that is gaining traction is the concept of “Deemed Status”. If enacted, “Deemed Status” would enable an accreditation organization like The Joint Commission to survey a nursing facility (and ultimately an assisted living center) in place of the state survey agency.
