A Conversation with Former WI Governor Martin Schreiber Addressing His Wife’s Dementia

Last year, former Wisconsin governor Martin Schreiber learned he could no longer care for his beloved wife, Elaine, who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2008.

Gov. Schreiber sat down with WisconsinEye to discuss his own personal journey as a caretaker for his wife, and the challenges he faced as a 24/7 caregiver. Elaine now lives in a care facility, and Gov. Schreiber has mounted a campaign to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s and the great amount of energy and constant care that goes into providing for those with dementia.
