Nominate a Worthy Applicant for a Shining Star Award Today

With the 2016 Fall Convention just around the corner, have you thought about who you’re going to nominate for a Shining Star award this year?

Members are encouraged to nominate worthy applicants for the WHCA/WiCAL Shining Star Awards, which will be presented during the 65th Annual Fall Convention, October 19-21, 2016. The no-exceptions deadline for nominations is September 9, 2016.

Nominations are requested for both WiCAL and WHCA members in each of the following categories (Click on the hyperlinks to download each of the respective nomination forms):

Direct Care Staff: This award will be presented to an individual caregiver who has provided excellent direct care to residents at a WHCA/WiCAL member facility, including but not limited to RNs, LPNs, CNAs, resident assistants/resident care staff, and therapists. This award seeks to recognize individuals who provide hands on care to residents and who have had a significant impact on the long-term care community through their hard work, dedication, and commitment to improving the lives of the residents they serve.

Volunteer: This award will be presented to an individual or group of individuals who has volunteered in a member facility for at least one year before being nominated for the award. During this time it is expected that the individual has exerted special effort, service or contribution that has contributed to improvement of the quality of life and/or community within the facility.

Support Staff: This award seeks to recognize the efforts of an individual who while not a direct caregiver, contributes to the lives of the residents and their fellow employees. Eligible individuals include staff members from such areas as activities, social services, housekeeping, business office, admission and reception.

Administrator/Manager: This award is for a facility Administrator recognized for outstanding statewide leadership who has been active in the WHCA/WiCAL, has current direct supervisory responsibility, has demonstrated outstanding leadership ability, and has contributed significantly to the profession of long-term care administration.


  • Each nomination must include the completed, relevant nomination form, along with a typed nomination letter describing why the nominee is deserving of the particular award and additional materials.
  • Photos of the nominees are required, and press clippings, letters, or other testimonials are strongly encouraged, and may mean the difference between two finalists.
  • All submissions will become the property of WHCA/WiCAL and will not be returned.


Documents of testimonials and nomination letters should be submitted in Microsoft Word or within the text of an email.
