The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) is announcing changes to the patient driven payment model prospective payment system case mix index (PDPM PPS CMI). This implements the parity adjustments from CMS. The parity adjustment is tied to
CMS final rule 1765 and results in reduced CMIs for direct care. DHS has increased the nursing services base and other direct care supplies and services base to offset this reduction in CMIs.

The Crnich Research Team at the University of Wisconsin – Madison is looking to partner with skilled nursing facilities on an infectious disease study that currently studies how COVID-19 spreads within nursing homes and will eventually focus on other types of transmissible respiratory infections like influenza and RSV. They are looking for interested facilities within a 60-minute drive from Madison. Nursing homes that choose to participate will receive a modest contribution to the facility education/development fund.

Last week, we reported that the Department of Health Services (DHS) announced an exciting new program, the goal of which is to train 10,000 people as Certified Direct Care Professionals to work in the Home and Community- Based setting. To be eligible, an assisted living center must participate in a program that serves Medicaid Home and Community-Based Participants (ie: Family Care).
The Program is free to candidates and to prospective employers. Program background along with guidance from DHS on how a provider gets connected with successfully certified direct care professionals follow.
