From 2020 to present day, the survey process has seen many changes – some temporary and some permanent. Survey policy, along with enforcement protocol, adapted during the COVID-19 pandemic, and CMS is now establishing new expectations for survey agencies and providers as we all begin to turn our eye toward emerging from the public health emergency. With a new focus on Infection Control in light of COVID-19, facility staff need to make sure basic and specialized processes are in place while implementing ever changing, more stringent protocols.
This session will review state and national survey data and statistics, identifying emerging trends. We will also discuss ways to prepare for a “new normal” of the survey process, with an understanding that the survey landscape will continue to evolve. Presenters will also discuss the future of CMS and DHS survey/enforcement policy, including the prospect of a minimum staffing requirement and how that could affect survey. The program will also address Phase 2 changes and Phase 3 guidance.
At the completion of this session, participants should be able to:
- Review survey, enforcement, and review/appeal timelines
- Examine current survey activity, recent survey data, including how survey and enforcement has changed during the pandemic
- Discuss processes for quality improvement and favorable survey outcomes
- Review national and state policy developments and advocacy efforts.
