During National Nursing Home Week® (NNHW), May 14–20, 2017, skilled nursing facilities across the nation will unite under the theme, The Spirit of America. The theme underscores the bond between staff, volunteers, and residents that captures the American spirit and provides an opportunity to celebrate the role of nursing facilities in caring for America’s seniors and individuals with disabilities.
Each year, the American Health Care Association (AHCA) creates a promotional catalog full of ideas on how to celebrate and promote the week-long event. Here’s one of the suggestions on how you can celebrate The Spirit of America:
Throw a celebration dinner and/or potluck party. The dinner/potluck incorporates one or more dishes representing a part of the world residents, volunteers, or staff are connected to (note: this virtually guarantees tuna salad won’t be on the table!). Make it even more festive by inviting local musicians to perform songs from different regions of the world.
Please keep WHCA/WiCAL in mind as you plan your celebrations! Association staff would love to be a part of your event. Just send us the details of when and where…and depending on schedules, we will be there!
And don’t forget to send us pictures of your events that we can share on social media and in CareConnection! Send any pictures or media coverage to Jim Stoa, WHCA/WiCAL’s Director of Public Affairs.
