On Wednesday, February 15, Governor Tony Evers (D) unveiled his version of the 2023-25 biennial state budget. The governor delivering his budget proposal to the state legislature is the first formal step in the biennial budget deliberation period. The bill now goes to the legislature for consideration. Republican legislative leaders, who control both houses of the legislature, have already indicated that the Governor’s budget proposal includes many provisions and spending priorities that do not align with their own priorities, and thus they will largely set aside the governor’s proposal and construct their own budget.
