This session will address the multiple expectations and obligations related to abuse/neglect/injury of unknown origin prevention and reporting. Given the critical issues involving protecting residents from harm, the interpretations of the regulations underlying these F-Tags is quite strict. There are multiple areas of missteps that can lead to allegations of noncompliance with these deficiencies, including in instances where no actual harm occurred. As importantly, often a single situation can yield multiple F-Tags alleging noncompliance. Given the importance of both protecting residents from harm, and the public perception associated with deficiencies in these areas, compliance in this highly scrutinized area is critical. This session will discuss the frequent areas in which providers are being cited critical components of written policy and training; necessary reporting expectations; and documentation and monitoring tips. Finally, we will discuss proactive and reactive QAPI efforts that may aid in compliance expectations.
