Background

Background

WisCaregiver Careers is administered through a partnership between Wisconsin Health Care Association (WHCA),  Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) and LeadingAge Wisconsin. The program has been grant financed since its launch in 2018, most recently receiving a $6 million grant funded through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Nursing Home & Long-term Care Facility Strike Team program.

WisCaregiver Careers functions as a hub between people who want to start a healthcare career as a CNA in a Wisconsin nursing home, and employers who want to hire and train them.

WisCaregivers enter the program by selecting a participating employer from our online map (below) and submitting an application for employment. WisCaregivers are often hired as Resident Assistants or Hospitality Aides, however the title varies by employers.

FSET refers qualified candidates to participating employers for hiring consideration and participating employers refer new hires and incumbent workers to FSET for eligibility screening and supportive services, where applicable. One of the cornerstone goals of WisCaregiver Careers is to create lasting supportive relationships between employers and FSET to facilitate long-term employment referral pipelines for CNAs and other roles needed in Wisconsin nursing homes.

WisCaregiver Training Consortium is a network of training providers across the state who have agreed to provide training at a flat rate of $700 per student. Many of the participating training providers are nursing homes with in-house CNA training programs. The program also has an emphasis on assisting nursing homes in becoming in-house CNA training providers.

AUTOMATED CANDIDATE LEADS

On WisCaregiver.com, our public facing website, we have created an automated email system designed to connect interested job candidates to local employers.  When a website visitor completes our registration form, the individual will receive a confirmation email with a cc to all WisCaregiver Employers within a 30-mile radius of the zip code provided. That email is our signal to the employers that a potential job applicant wants to learn more about your work and training opportunities. Employers should develop internal procedures to ensure these emails are followed up on as soon as possible.
