Five Star Ratings – Potential Errors in Health Inspection Rating

We have learned and heard from several members regarding inaccurate data that the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) pulls from the national Care Compare database. Some Recertification and Complaint surveys have been mislabeled, causing surveys to be included in the Health Inspection Rating calculations that would typically fall outside the included time period. We do not know how many providers have been impacted by this error but encourage you to review and verify your ratings. CMS has been alerted about these errors, and the American Health Care Association (AHCA) continues to work to correct this issue.

What can you do? Review the Five Star Provider Preview Report and determine if the Recertification and Complaint Surveys are labeled appropriately and that the calculations by CMS are accurate. This will help WHCA/WiCAL and AHCA have a more accurate understanding of the scope of the problem and work with CMS to correct it. We will provide additional updates as we receive them.
