For your consideration: CMP Reinvestment Grant Opportunity on Skin Health

Superior Health Quality Alliance logo

WHCA/WiCAL is currently assembling a Civil Monetary Penalty (CMP) Reinvestment Fund grant application with LeadingAge and  Wisconsin’s Quality Improvement Organization (QIO), Superior Health Quality Alliance/MetaStar (MetaStar), in the critical quality of care area of Skin Health and Wound Care. WHCA/WiCAL will be the lead applicant.   Unfortunately, CMP Reinvestment Fund grant opportunities are only open to nursing homes because the Program utilizes a portion of the civil monetary penalties that have been assessed against nursing homes following facility surveys.

The “Wisconsin Initiative for Skin Health ” or WiSH will provide training to participating nursing home staff to create and implement resident-centered systems for high quality skin care, including wound prevention, assessment and treatment.    The aim is to increase competencies and implement the framework of the Institute for Health Improvement’s (IHI) Age Friendly Health Systems 4Ms initiative.  MetaStar will take the lead in delivering these services and looks forward to offering a two-pronged approach of group-based training and one-on-one technical assistance. In addition to training for a nursing home’s leadership team, this program will support the growth of CNA caregivers through on demand, interactive eLearning modules covering topics related to pressure injuries such as prevention, mobility, dietary practices, and the impact on skin from chronic diseases.  All three organizations are committed to offering this on-site pressure injury and other wound prevention training for skilled staff and CNAs and look forward to additionally assisting with the review of policies and procedures, critical program elements review, and care plan audits on this important topic.

Under the CMP Reinvestment Fund grant structure, WiSH will fall under the “Quality of Care” category.  Under this category, a nursing facility is allotted up to $6000 per year in training funds. The WiSH grant proposes to utilize $3000 per year for each of three years ($9000 total).  As such, a facility participating in WiSH would still have an additional $3000 per year for each of the next three years to utilize for other Quality of Care CMP Reinvestment Fund Grant opportunities.

In order to participate in the WiSH grant, a nursing facility must sign a letter of support, the link to which is set forth below.  Thirty-three (33) facilities have already committed to participate.  We need another 22 facilities to make the grant proposal viable so that it can be submitted for consideration and, hopefully, approval.

Questions regarding the grant?  Please contact Jenna Heim at MetaStar, jheim@metastar.com /608-441-8205

If you would have no questions and would like to participate in this important opportunity, please complete this letter of support and return to Jenna’s attention.  WiSH ltr of support template.docx
